The Vow

Chick flick alert!

Yes, it's another chick flick but it's based on true story of Kim and Krickitt Carpenter.

The couple got into a car accident and "Paige" suffered brain trauma  It erased all memories of her romance with "Leo" as well as their recent marriage. :( Though she remembers her life before meeting her husband - family, friends and even ex-fiancee. I think they call it partial amnesia.

I love the movie. This is why I really do believe in true love and destiny. ;))

Favorite quotes:

"My theory is that these moments of impact... that these flashes of reality that turn us upside down... change us."

"The truth is we're sum of all the moments we've experienced with all the people we've ever known... and these moments become our history."

"I vow to always hold you to tenderness.... to live within the walls of your heart and to call call it home."

"I vow to love you now and forever. I promise to never forget that this is once in a lifetime love. I vow to love you and no matter what challenges may carry us apart, we will always find a way back to each other."

"So that's my theory. That these moments of impact define who we are."

"I need to make my wife fall in love with me again."

"How do you look at the one you love and tell yourself it is time to walk away."

"Your memories are not coming back. The fact is I'm still a stranger. I'm trying not to hurt you. It's just that I'm tired of disappointing you."

"I chose to stay with all the right things he had done and not to leave with the one mistake he did."

"My hands remembered what my mind forgot."

"You said everything. You accepted me for who I am and not for who you wanted me to be. I just want you to be happy."

*sigh*

People Like Us

You gotta watch this film. I'm just a mababaw person so I do often cry watching drama films especially when someone dies or you know the usual films of unrequited love. Last night though, I didn't exactly know why i cried. Probably because I watched it alone (bwahaha. def NOT!)? Or maybe because of the story? Because of the casts' performance? Because of the music? Maybe all of the above! :) It's an overwhelming feeling so I am posting it here.

The Six Rules:

1. If you like something because you think other people are going to like it, it’s a sure bet that no one will.

2. Most doors in the world are closed, so if you find one that you want to get into, you damn well better have an interesting knock.

3. Everything that you think is important isn’t. Everything that you think is unimportant is.

4. Don’t shit where you eat.

5. Lean into it. The outcome doesn’t matter. What matters is that you were there for it, whatever ‘it’ is - good or bad.

6. Don’t sleep with people who have more problems than you do.

Love one particular song in this film. Vocals and lyrics, amazing. So amazing!

The Great Gatsby

This is my first (hopefully not the last) classic american book read. I decided to read this because I got curious about F Scott Fitzgerald's writings, along with Hemingway, after watching Midnight in Paris movie last year.

Two weeks ago, I went to a bookstore and bought a copy of The Great Gasby in a Penguin Popular Classics paperback cover for only 99.00 pesos. :)

Let me share to you my highlighted quotes from the book:

"Whenever you feel like criticising anyone, just remember that all the people in this world haven't had the advantages that you've had."

"I'm glad it's a girl. And I hope she'll be a fool - that's the best thing a girl can be in this world, a beautiful little fool."

"He smiled understandingly - much more than understandingly. It was one of the rare smiles with a quality of eternal reassurance in it, that you may come across four or five times in life. It faced - or semmed to face - the whole eternal world in an instant, and then concentrated on you with an irresistable prejudice in your favour. It understood you just so far as you would like to believe in yourself, and assured you that it had precisely the impression of you that, at your best, you hoped to convey."

"I wasn't actually in love, but i felt a sort of tender curiousity."

"Angry, and half in love with her, and tremendously sorry, I turned away."

"But I am slow-thinking and full of interior rules that act as brakes on my desires..."

"No amount of fire or freshness can challenge what a man can store up in his ghostly heart."

"Let us learn to show our friendship for a man when he is alive and not after he is dead."

"So we beat on, boats against the current, borne back ceaselessly into the past."
